Tidbits of wisdom I have absorbed recently.
-Racing isn't always about how you train. It isn't always about the mindset you have going into the race. It's about how you respond - innately - to the circumstances presented in each individual race.
-It's ok to change your routine a little bit.
-Consistency is key. If you're not consistent, you don't get anywhere. You don't improve- or your performance is all over the place- if you train sporadically or don't keep tabs on the paces you're running.
-Jim was right (he very seldom ISN'T right): higher knees = longer stride = less time on the ground = better forward movement = faster times. This isn't to say that you want an insane stride (too long of a stride leads to injury - what doesn't??) but I've come to believe that quad strength is huge when you are trying to be speedy, and the better you can use those hip flexors the faster you'll run.
-"For future reference, having a good cross country season does not mean you will be good at the 800." - Jeremy Berg [I just found this quote, while looking through my scribbled season notes trying to plug all my mileage into my online tracker...]
